PAIN CONTROL

Sports-injury pain is usually caused by fluid and substances released from damaged tissue. Pain signals that activity should stop; it is not a sign of weakness or lack of commitment or desire.

Pain medications

•  Acetaminophen ("Tylenol")
•  Aspirin
•  Ibuprofen ("Advil" or "Motrin")
•  Naproxen ("Aleve" or "Naprosyn")


Adult Dose


Acetaminophen

•  not more than 1 gram (1000 mg) per dose or 4 grams (4000 mg) per day. Taking more risks liver damage.

Aspirin

•  two, 325 mg tablets every 4 hours; not more than 5 times per day.

Ibuprofen

•  200mg-400 mg every 4-6 hours; take with food.

Naproxen

•  250-500 mg daily; take with food.

Acetaminophen

Aspirin

Ibuprofen

•  4.5 mg/pound of body weight, max = 15 mg per day; take with food.

Naproxen

•  4.5 mg/pound of body weight, max = 15 mg per day; take with food.
