DENTAL INJURIES

Injuries to the mouth and teeth occur most often from direct blows to the face, causing bleeding, displacement of a tooth, chipped, broken or knocked out teeth, and fractures of the jaw or other facial bones.

Immediate Attention

Tooth/Mouth Bleeding

1. Put on gloves.

2. Put direct finger pressure with sterile gauze over the area of bleeding.

Loose/Damaged Teeth

Loose Tooth: If pushed back, pulled forward, or hanging down, gently push the tooth back into its normal position. See a dentist ASAP.

Missing Tooth: Find the tooth; save it in whole milk. See a dentist or physician within 30 minutes to have the tooth put back in place.

Broken Tooth: Save the broken portion. Follow directions in #2 above.

Consult a physician IF...
