BLISTERS

Caused by friction from skin being rubbed by an ill-fitting shoe, a seam or fold in a sock, or holding a racquet or ski pole. Cover vulnerable regions with tape, bandages, moleskin, or gloves.

Immediate Attention

1. Lubricate pre-blister irritation ("hot spot") with petroleum jelly; cover with gauze/moleskin. Possibly ice.

2. Do not pick or pull at a blister. Use a moleskin doughnut pad until healed.

3. Wash a broken blister frequently with soap and warm water. Trim ragged edges with sterile scissors. Cover with a sterile dressing;

Consult a physician IF..

•  signs of infection appear: pus oozing from the blistered region, redness, pain, or swelling.
