Data Collection
For three representative days in your life, keep a Time Diary in which you record your activities for every hour of the day.
Make entries in your Time Diary two-to-three times a day. For example, at noon, record your activities since awakening; at 5:00 pm or so, record your activities since noon; at bedtime, record your activities since 5:00 pm.
Example:
6:00 am: wake up
6-7 am: shower, dress, eat breakfast
7-8 am: drive to work
Data Analysis
1. Calculate the average daily hours spent in the following activities:
- time awake
- time asleep
- time spent at school
- time spent studying/with schoolwork
- time spent at work
- time spent with family
- time spent with friends
- time spent with self
2. Calculate the percentage of time spent in your daily activities (as above). (Divide the average number of hours spent in each activity by 24 and multiply by 100).
3. Are you getting the recommended number of hours of sleep per night?
4. Can you identify windows of time that you can devote to priority activities that now go neglected?
5. What did you learn from the Time Audit?
Submit your Time Diary and Data Analysis to the instructor. Evaluation: 5 points for the Time Diary and 5 points for the Data Analysis.
